On 26th September 32 SSAFA supporters and Veterans will be climbing on board the Lord Nelson, a handsome traditional three-masted square-rigged tall ship, at its mooring on the Thames. From there they will set sail for Caen in Normandy to commemorate 75 years since the D-Day landings. Each of the supporters has paid their own way and will aim to raise £2,500 to help our current veterans and service families. The team includes veterans who have served their country and overcome enormous odds. They have been helped personally by SSAFA and they are an inspiration to us all. Whilst on deck they will experience the challenge of open water conditions. They will learn to set sails, help in the galley and helm the ship. This is not for the lily-livered or faint hearted. Veterans and serving personnel are entitled to get a discounted registration rate of £250.
